This Sunday 20 September, the BOD race will be combined with the Bart’s Bash race being hosted by BSC with an all in start at 14.00. Following the success of its record breaking first year in 2014, this event has now been established as an annual event.
As well as being great fun, the race is run in memory of Andrew “Bart” Simpson, who lost his life when the Artemis America’s Cup boat capsized in San Francisco Bay, and to raise funds for the Andrew Simpson Foundation, which uses the challenges of sailing to promote health and wellbeing, and to develop personal skills that will improve a young person’s ability to succeed in life and work. Their focus is on young people between the age of 5 and 24, across the world. Where sailing opportunities are already delivered through sailing clubs, training centres, organisations, charities and schools the Foundation will support, both practically and financially, those providers. In countries where the sailing facilities are less developed the Foundation will support the creation of those facilities and their sustainability.
You can enter simply by turning up on the start line, and if you wish you can also take the opportunity to make a small donation to the Andrew Simpson Foundation to help them continue their excellent work via www.bartsbash.com
