The CYC Robbie Stone Chalice became a three race mini series instead of the planned single round the cans race on Sunday 14 July and six boats came to the line to compete. Colin Willett, Nick Readings and their trusty team of volunteers officiated and the courses were set up in the vicinity of No 10 and Point Clear/No 13.

It was a super shifty day with everything from 5 to 15 knots as a series mini squalls came through under the lines of dark cloud sweeping across from the north east quadrant. Between the mini squalls there were often very light patches so it was a challenging day tactically with constant gear changes for the trimmers.

The falling tide added another challenge and pretty much everyone in the fleet found themselves running aground repeatedly. The racing was super close and with extra short courses very physically challenging too and much enjoyed by all.

Phil Rust sailing Dulcet with Tania Bines and Mike Ruse won races one and three with a fourth in race two to give him overall victory. Sue Bouckley in Eider with Adrian Bouckley and Derick Gentry, and Geoff Gritton in Never Say Never with Ian Hastings and Chris Walker, both gave him a really good run for his money, with Eider taking second overall and Never Say Never third. Danny Fox in Egret with the Mersea Boys had a mixed day with a pair of fourth places contrasting with a win in race two to leave him in fourth overall.

Tom Sargent in Jumbo Too with Iain Werngren and Alan Hicks and Fi Brown in Storm Petrel had the added challenge of sailing two up, which is no mean feat within the short course format with only a couple of minutes between hoisting and dropping the spinnaker. Initially Storm Petrel appeared to have beaten Jumbo, but Storm Petrel had touched the pin end mark in race two and failed to correctly exonerate themselves so were forced to retire, giving fifth place to Jumbo Too.
